MARTINO TAKES OVER ARGENTINA

Gerardo Martino has been given the charge of the Argentina national football team. This is going to be his second tenure as manager in international football. He has already had a fairly long run with Paraguay in the past.

Martino’s work as Paraguay boss was hailed by many. He guided the South American side to Round of 8 in the World Cup in South Africa 4 years ago. Los Guaranies also made it to the title round of Copa America under his guidance one year later i.e. in 2011.

So, Martino has seen success at international level, but, being the manager of a minnow like Paraguay is completely different from being the manager of a top side like Argentina. The main difference is the pressure of expectations. As Argentina boss, Martino can’t hope to get away with too many defeats. A few defeats and the knives will be out for him straightaway. He will have to make sure that he makes Argentina win consistently.

The best promotions that I

If Martino’s whole managerial career is seen, he has managed a lot of clubs, but, hardly any one of them except Barcelona is a top club. He has generally managed the clubs from South America.

At Barcelona, Martino just spent one season and that did not prove to be memorable for him as he could not make the Spanish giants win the La Liga trophy for the second time on the trot.

Barcelona finished second in the league table which prompted Martino to resign from his post.

Under Martino, Barcelona just lifted one trophy the previous season and that was Spanish Super Cup.

However, despite his struggle at Barcelona, there are still a lot of pundits who admire Martino a lot for his managerial style. He wants his players to play attacking brand of football in any situation.
