Martino Announes Desire To Stay At Barcelona

Barcelona manager Gerardo Martino has stated that he would like to stay at the club beyond the end of the season. The future of the Argentine has been heavily speculated after they are set to end the season without a major trophy. They are still in contention for the la Liga title, but Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid are the favourites to win the league. More than the lack of ability to win trophies, fans have been extremely disappointed by the style of football employed by Martino. He has deviated from the incredibly useful era started by Pep Guardiola.

Despite the recent poor run of form, which has seen them concede defeat in Copa del Rey, Champions League and the league, Martino has stated that he would like to remain as the Barcelona manager into the new season. Only a few weeks ago he confirmed that there is a clause with his contract that would allow him to leave the club at the end of the season if all parties are not satisfied with his work. Rumours about his future have begun at an intense pace then after Barcelona have been found talking with former coach Luis Enrique in the last few days.

Martino has the opportunity to lift the league title if Barcelona win their remaining matches.

“I’d like to think I’ll be staying. It’s been intense, I’ve learned a lot about myself. Our chances are slim, but there is still a chance,” said the manager. The club are two points behind Atletico Madrid in the league table, but they could leapfrog Diego Simeone‚Äôs men with a win over their title rivals on the final day of the season. Atletico Madrid will be visiting the camp Nou for the final match of the season. Real Madrid trail Barcelona by two points.
