Lineker Reveals Barcelona Officials Requested Suarez Apology

According to Gary Lineker, it’s the Barcelona officials who had requested the controversial Uruguayan forward Luis Suarez to apologize publicly for his act in the FIFA World Cup 2014.

Suarez had bitten an Italian player during a World Cup group game in Brazil after which the question marks had started being raised over his much hyped transfer from Liverpool to Barcelona, but, now, that he has apologized for what he did, he should be making his way to Camp Nou this summer.

Lineker is a former English player who himself played for Barcelona for a few years. He is a TV presenter these days. Yesterday, he wrote on his Twitter account, “An apology has eventually come from Suarez. He says this sort of act would never be repeated in the future by him.”

“I have heard Barcelona officials had insisted him for this apology so that the transfer process can go ahead smoothly.”

What Lineker is saying might be right because Suarez had refused to confess his guilt a couple of days after that particular incident saying that he didn’t do anything wrong and now, from nowhere, an apologetic statement has been released by him. This certainly seems to be pointing towards the fact that he has been made to do so by someone, perhaps by the Catalan giants.

Suarez had been absolutely sensational in the English league last season. He had scored more than 30 goals to take Liverpool close to their first league glory in many years.

If he makes his way to Barcelona, he along with Messi would constitute a lethal attacking line there.

Suarez’s record is great for each and every club that he has been a part of so far. The Blaugrana hierarchy would hope that he turns the heat on in La Liga as well.

Pedro Unsure Of Place In Barcelona

Barcelona winger Pedro has claimed that he is unsure whether he will remain at the Catalan club going into the season. The summer transfer window opens in a few weeks. Despite always being on the World Cup 2014, transfers are taking place in the background. Several clubs have been very active in the off-season in the hope of completing their summer purchases before the World Cup, as any good performances at this major tournament could inflate the prices even further. Is one of the players

Pedro is one of the players linked with an exit from Barcelona, who are expected to make a lot of changes to the playing staff. After a poor season last time around, they will be hoping to add to their playing staff in several areas of the pitch. Due to the high debts, the club will have to sell a number of star players like Cesc Fabregas in order to fund the new purchases. Despite the poor season for the club, Pedro was one of the important players for Barcelona last season. The 26-year-old made an appearance in 37 league matches, although most were as a substitute. He is one of the saleable assets at the club.

His future has been thrown into doubt after in a recent interview he accepted that he could leave Barcelona in the summer.

“I’m not sure what’s going to happen, I’m relaxed and concentrating on the team [Spain] and the World Cup. When I need to decide something, I’ll talk to the club and we’ll see what happens. But I’m relaxed and I don’t know anything, I’ll carry on concentrating on the team and on playing well in the World Cup. I don’t really understand it, he’s such a great player who plays really well for us. I haven’t talked about it with him – he’s happy and focusing on the team. If he goes, it’ll be a real shame for Barca,” said Pedro about his future and Fabregas’ future.

Martino Announes Desire To Stay At Barcelona

Barcelona manager Gerardo Martino has stated that he would like to stay at the club beyond the end of the season. The future of the Argentine has been heavily speculated after they are set to end the season without a major trophy. They are still in contention for the la Liga title, but Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid are the favourites to win the league. More than the lack of ability to win trophies, fans have been extremely disappointed by the style of football employed by Martino. He has deviated from the incredibly useful era started by Pep Guardiola.

Despite the recent poor run of form, which has seen them concede defeat in Copa del Rey, Champions League and the league, Martino has stated that he would like to remain as the Barcelona manager into the new season. Only a few weeks ago he confirmed that there is a clause with his contract that would allow him to leave the club at the end of the season if all parties are not satisfied with his work. Rumours about his future have begun at an intense pace then after Barcelona have been found talking with former coach Luis Enrique in the last few days.

Martino has the opportunity to lift the league title if Barcelona win their remaining matches.

“I’d like to think I’ll be staying. It’s been intense, I’ve learned a lot about myself. Our chances are slim, but there is still a chance,” said the manager. The club are two points behind Atletico Madrid in the league table, but they could leapfrog Diego Simeone’s men with a win over their title rivals on the final day of the season. Atletico Madrid will be visiting the camp Nou for the final match of the season. Real Madrid trail Barcelona by two points.

REINA FOR BARCA?

Pepe Reina is going through a season long loan deal with Napoli after circumstances with Liverpool got tough which forced him on finding playing time somewhere else and the Italian club Napoli was his ultimate decision.

The Spanish goalkeeper was being considered to be as a possible successor for Victor Valdes in Barcelona as well as being as a backup option for Spain in the upcoming 2014 World Cup.

It seems likely that Reina will not be joining Liverpool for the rest of his career as he already wrote a goodbye letter to the fans of the Premier League club and the veteran shot-stopper expressed his satisfaction about being taken into consideration for a top club such as Barcelona.

“It pleases me that they’re speaking of me as a possible Barcelona goalkeeper, but now it’s difficult to speak about what will happen. I’m happy at Napoli. We’re facing the end of the season trying to reach second place, even if now it will be difficult. But we will not let up. Obviously, there’s also the final of the Coppa Italia, which we have so much desire to win.” Reina revealed.

Unless Barcelona can appeal their recent transfer ban, Pepe Reina or any new player will be able to join the club but the former Liverpool player still said that if feels good knowing that a club such as Barcelona is keeping close tabs on him and they know what he has to offer.

Napoli President Aurelio de Laurentiis is hoping that a permanent deal involving Pepe Reina is done soon as he wants to keep the Spanish goalkeeper performing with Napoli in Serie A.

Ever since Pepe Reina joined Napoli, he has been a consistent starter for the Italian club and has helped them this season on enjoying a fairly successful and impressive campaign as they are currently located in the 3rd spot of the Italian League Serie A.

MARTINO IS RIGHT MAN

Ahead of the crucial second leg match with Manchester City, Barcelona manager Gerardo Martino has rejected suggestions that he is not the right man for the job. Questions have been asked about the quality of the Argentine boss, as Barcelona have been going through a sticky patch in the last few weeks. They have lost three out of the last six league matches and it has seen them concede their lead in the league table to Real Madrid with only 10 matches remaining in the season. However, they are on course to reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions League after a 2-0 win over Manchester City in the first leg.

It was arguably their best performance of the season so far, as they dominated the match from start to finish. Barcelona do not come into the second leg in the right frame of mind after having lost yet another league match on Sunday. The 1-0 defeat against Real Valladolid has put them four points behind Real Madrid after 27 matches. The team has not been achieving the heights of the last few years. They have been able to come this far only because of individual performances from the likes of Lionel Messi, who is also not hitting the heights of last season.

Rumours suggest that the manager will be sacked if Barcelona do not retain the league title.

“I have to be strong and powerful otherwise I should not be a manager. I am not listening to all of the criticism. I’m not here to express how you should do your work. I have to train my team and make them play better. It’s not an issue of motivation, Barcelona has enough good players to think about being successful this season. I am not here to talk about the criticism. If we play good then the criticisms will change,” said Martino.

PUYOL STILL A BEAST

Carles Puyol is nearing the end of his career no matter how much fans and players will hate it when he finally decides to hang up his boots. Injuries have been something that has always troubled the 35 years old defender and the Spanish defender has admitted that he would like to play until he was 40 but he doesn’t want to be a disturbance for the team.

Puyol said: “I want to continue playing, but I don’t want to be a passenger. The moment I don’t feel okay, I’ll stop, regardless of my contract.”

In these recent few seasons Puyol is being blocked out from the first team as Gerardo Martino usually opts to go with Gerard Pique and Javier Mascherano as the preferred combination at the heart of Barcelona’s defence.

Marc Bartra is another candidate that is fighting to find his place into the main squad of Martino and he is looking to be like a promising figure for the upcoming years.

Vicente Del Bosque revealed not too long ago that Puyol is still being taken into consideration for the upcoming 2014 World Cup as it will probably be his last one as well.

‘’Look, no one, absolutely no one, is currently ruled out for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. And much less Carles Puyol. Carles Puyol is a special case for me. What happens will depend on whether you have minutes on the pitch, whether or not you are playing regularly at your club, how you are at the end of season’’.

‘’Carles and other possible call-ups, everyone. I’ve already told him when he was recovering that we would expect him to sharpen. His recovery has been remarkable for the dedication and effort he has put in’’. Del Bosque stated.

Puyol has a contract that runs up until 2016 with Barcelona but it might end sooner if he is not able to snatch a spot in the starting lineup of the coach.
